WoW Upgrades - The item upgrades Upgrader

Upgrades give you an increase in specific stats. Each upgrade increases item level by +3. A random additional substat is also boosted alongside each upgrade.

Upgraded gear generally sees higher trade value, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB shield of the sorc) or a very high stat variation (like Eth titan weapons). The latter are less valuable from upgrading due to the requirement to roll for a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. The item used to upgrade the item upgrader kit will be consumed and can't be used again. Upgrades can also be applied to enhancements.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear current it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every several weeks.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item, however they'll always be cheaper than buying new equipment. For example upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points while purchasing the same item from a different player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are useful items that can be used to improve the quality of weapons tools, armor, and other accessories. They are purchased by players from item upgrader NPCs in exchange for a variety of currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade is purchased it can be applied to any weapon or tool using an button, which will show an item's preview when it is upgraded if the player has sufficient materials.

The upgrade cost depends on the item slot and the current item level and the weapon's price is higher than bracers or gloves, for example. Each upgrade costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with some upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or crests used. Once an Item Level Upgrade is upgraded to a certain amount it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Many locations have upgraders for their items, including the main Island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade coupon and a possibility of getting a new recipe. The discount on upgrades increases depending on the amount of items being upgraded, and can be boosted by requiring players to complete specific achievements or quests.

Icewind Dale does not have an upgrader for items at the beginning, unlike Cromwell from Baldur's Gate II. The NPCs that can assist with upgrades are available only through a variety means. This is both a benefit and a disadvantage.

In Season 3 the upgrade system was tweaked a bit, with numerous new features added. After a player has earned an upgrade to a certain level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading further items to the same level will be less expensive, even in the event that they belong to another set of gear.

The amount of Valorstones required to upgrade is reduced and the discount is available across all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is cut as well, but is only available after certain milestones have been reached.

Crests

Players have several choices when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are an option that is accessible to everyone who wants to upgrade item. Crests are more specialized, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to be aware of is that crests are only able to be spent on equipment that is of a particular rank, and each rank has different requirements for its upgrade path. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the more complex one can require as much as 20 crests based on the type of equipment being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by working through content that is of the appropriate level, which involves walking around and performing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of all difficulty for items of higher tier or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons for endgame gear. These crests can be exchanged with an upgrader, such as Cuzolth or Vaskarn, in Valdrakken for the appropriate upgrade steps and routes.

Using these new currencies isn't that difficult, but the system will introduce a few modifications to the upgrade process. For example, once an item is at the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic), it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change allows players to upgrade their equipment to the highest possible level for all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests wisely, as they have only one purpose. For instance it's a good idea make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests on the best equipment available and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next batch of upgrades you're planning on making. This is particularly applicable to items like trinkets and rings that take up several slots. The discount on the account will only apply when all slots on the character are filled with high-quality gear.
