Path of Exile Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a common and important way to improve the performance of many items in Path of Exile. They can be a great source of damage and more AD or even more attachments.

Often times however upgraded Common and Magic gear is outclassed by Rare-grade gear due to their higher requirements.

Armor

Armor upgrades are a form of upgrade that can be applied to weapons and armor items. They boost the performance of the item that they are attached to. Armor upgrades can be found in the world of games and purchased from Blacksmiths on bonfires. They can also be salvaged using a specialist or higher salvage kit to recover upgrade components from other items.

The amount of damage an armored piece or weapon can absorb depends on the extent of its upgrades. Upgrading a piece of armor to maximum upgrade level will boost its damage absorption. However, it's important be aware that this upgrade will increase its weight, causing it to weigh more than before.

There are a variety of armor upgrades that are available in the game. Each one has a distinct impact. Certain upgrades grant armor an extra amount of health points while others make it stronger and lighter. The name of the armor upgrade will tell you the kind of upgrade the item can receive, as shown below.

Some of the upgrades also require magic or a combination of technology and magic, which is identified by the "Magic" and "Hybrids" entries in the table. Additionally, some upgrades require a fee to use, and are identified by a "Charges" entry in the table below. The charges associated with these upgrades refresh daily or never expire depending on the upgrade.

The cheapest method to upgrade armor is by using Iron Ore, which can be obtained by exploring the area and looting minor loot chests. Titanium is more expensive, but can be found at the smelters of Orgrimmar and Stormwind City. Some upgrades, like the Reforge or the Hot Potato Books can only be applied to armor pieces that are of high-level. These upgrades can provide a significant improvement in stats and are worth the cost, especially for single-handed weapons.

The process of upgrading an armor piece to its maximum upgrade level will significantly increase its defense capabilities however, the user must be aware that increasing its weight will dramatically reduce its speed and agility. It is not recommended to upgrade armor beyond +9. The added defense usually isn't worth the weight and power cost of the upgrades.

Weapons

Weapon upgrades give players the ability to improve certain aspects of their weapon. Upgrades can increase the accuracy of a rifle or the damage that shotgun shells cause. Certain firearms have upgrades to improve their inherent capabilities. Frictionless materials (improves stability, and reduces the risk of overheating), and Kinetic coils (increases the projectile's velocity to cause more damage) are two examples.

The majority of weapon upgrades require a whetblade. It's one of three Power Dices and a different amount Minerals and Erons. These can be obtained by completing Side Quests or by killing a certain amount of monsters and bosses.

Upgrades to a weapon, equipment Set piece or Whetblade requires visiting the NPC [Armor] Boboko in Central Flarine and paying her an upgrade cost that is based on a specific number of Bars. The more bars you need to complete an upgrade, the more advanced the level. If you have multiple upgrade materials, the cost of upgrading will be lower.

In Chapter 2: Season 5, the way you upgrade your equipment and weapon sets changed a little. To improve their skills quicker, players usually be more inclined to upgrade their weapons. Players should also upgrade the weapons that their squadmates utilize to increase their power. Shepard, for example, should upgrade the M92F in order to unlock the Beretta M93R. This will make the weapon more effective when accompanied with biotic specialists like Grunt and Tali.

Jewels

Jewels are placed in the sockets of armor and weapons, increasing the power of a character and bringing about secondary effects. They can be created using a process called jewelry crafting, in which you combine a gemstone and a number of specific reagents at a jewelry table. The higher the level of the gem is, the greater its secondary effect. These reagents can be found around the world from Treasure Goblins, World Bosses and, sometimes, by salvaging Legendary gear. You can also buy them from The Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Prism.

The quality of a jewel can be improved by the Jeweler in stages that range from Crude to Royal. Depending on the tier of the gem it will give different stat boosts when inserted into weapons, gear and jewelry.

All kinds of jewels are crafted at the Jeweler and Jeweler's Workshop, with the exception of the rare and legendary gems that require you to be at a certain level to qualify for the privilege of having them. Unlike other upgrade components, jewels can be swapped with another identical jewel without destroying the original one. You are able to replace the jewel only once in a piece of equipment.

It is common to use more gems to enhance the appearance of. Apart from improving performance, the jewels create an outer layer that is more durable than metal, so repeated friction from pivots won't damage them as easily.

A Glyphmaster can provide glyphs that can enhance the look of your shields and weapons. These provide a small bonus and can be swapped freely, but are not guaranteed to drop as loot. Glyphs can be upgraded, as jewelry, by visiting the Jeweler for gold and a Scattered Crystal. Glyphs are also removed, which returns them to the inventory. Other upgrade components, such as aegis and traits, cannot be swapped out, and can only be retrieved using an Upgrade Extractor or salvaging them using the Black Lion Salvage Kit or an Ascended Salvage Tool.

Trinkets

Trinkets can be used to give your character various small, but valuable, advantages. They can be obtained in the areas of starting as loot, personal story rewards, from vendors, or by doing road interactions. They can also be made by jewelers, and then found or purchased at the Trading Post.

The first trinkets that a player unlocks will be the cloak, which grants a small, but valuable boost in speed of movement and evasion. After that, they can purchase amulets, rings and necklaces in the same fashion to how the player can acquire weapons and armor. Each piece of equipment has one upgrade slot that can accommodate either a universal or jewel upgrade items. Universal upgrades provide smaller bonuses and can be placed in any kind of equipment while jewelry cannot be replaced or upgraded and only works with certain kinds of trinkets.

These trinkets grant additional buffs and abilities that are active when the hero isn't in combat. This lets the hero be more effective when not active and may also help to compensate for the absence of a solid team or any slots from the talent tree which would normally be filled with hero's ideal stats.

A good general rule of thumb for trinket upgrades is to prioritize BiS (Best-in-Slot) items that you will not replace soon, followed by any items with desirable stats that are less important than the iLevel of the item upgrade to be upgraded. This is especially true if you're looking to upgrade several statistics on an item. It's more beneficial to upgrade a single important stat instead of two subpar ones.

At the beginning of the game players in the jungle are likely to upgrade their yellow trinket into a red one, while top and mid players will usually opt for a green or pink ward (depending on the matchup). These choices can impact the hero's ability to manage the map.

In addition to the items mentioned above, players can also find a number of other trinkets in the game in the form of awards and trophies. These can be obtained by completing certain milestones within the story, such as finishing a chapter's main quest or destroying a boss. They can be viewed by selecting the appropriate achievement in the reward tab of the hero menu.
