WoW Upgrades - The item Level upgrade Upgrader

Upgrades will give you a boost to certain stats. Each upgrade boosts the level of an item by +3. A random additional substat is also boosted alongside every upgrade.

The upgraded gear typically has a higher trade value, unless it has inherently low requirements (like the FB sorc's shield) or very high stat variance (like the eth titan weapons). Upgrades are less important for the latter due to the need to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be made on any kind of armor or weapons. The item upgrades used to upgrade the item is discarded and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

The upgrader is located in all major cities, and can be visited at any time to upgrade your equipment. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each couple of weeks.

The cost of upgrades will depend on the current level of the gear being upgraded, but will always be cheaper than buying new equipment from other sources. For instance, upgrading a chest piece from Benthic to 385 ilvl will cost 20 recycle points purchasing a similar piece from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade weapons, armor, tools and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for a variety of currencies, and may also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any tool, weapon or armor. The button will show the preview of an item's next upgrade level, when there are enough materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot of the item and the current level of the item. For example weapons cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a few crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to lower the cost of the Flightstones or crests that are used. Once an item is upgraded to a certain level it is able to be downgraded and sold to the upgrader at a lower price.

Upgraders for items can be found in a variety of locations including the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade item discount and a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases when more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

Contrary to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no item upgrader available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. Instead the NPCs that can be used to upgrade are acquired via a variety of means that are both an improvement but also a drawback.

In Season 3, many new features have been added to the upgrade system. Once a player obtains an upgrade to a specific level of an item for a specific armor slot, upgrading further items to that level will cost less even in the event that they are part of a different gear set.

The amount of Valorstones required to upgrade is reduced and the discount is account-wide. Similarly, the amount of Harbinger Crests required for upgrades is also cut and is not available until players reach certain milestones in their achievements.

Crests

Players have several options when it comes to upgrading their equipment in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to everyone for upgrading. Crests are more special, and are used during specific item level upgrades. Crests are an important part of the Dragonflight Gear Progression System, which was introduced in version 10.1. They are available in four ranks.

The first thing to remember is that Crests are only available to equipment that is with a certain rank. Each rank comes with a different upgrade path. The simplest and most straightforward upgrade path costs 15 crests, while the most complex can require as much as 20 crests based on the type of gear being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by working through content that is of the appropriate level, which means walking around and doing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, raids or dungeons of all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses or dungeons for gear that is used in the endgame. These crests can be exchanged with an item upgrader like Cuzolth or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to upgrade the item in the proper steps and routes.

The new currency system isn't too difficult to use, but it does bring some changes to the process of upgrading. For example, once an item is at the highest level of upgrading for any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't require Flightstones to be upgraded. This is to allow players to upgrade their equipment to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also essential to use crests in a wise manner, as they have only one purpose. For instance, it's a good idea to utilize all of your Whelpling rank crests on the best equipment you have and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan to make. This is particularly relevant for rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character, which can only be eligible to avail the discount for all accounts when all of the slots are filled with high-quality equipment.
