Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting

volvo replacement key owners appreciate their key fob's useful remote that comes with features. Using a smartphone app, they can lock and unlock the vehicle as well as start the engine and even locate the vehicle.

Place the fob's front up on a clean surface. Locate the button that lets you release it, insert a coin between the fob and the cover, and pull up carefully.

Locking the Door

Volvo's remote keys can unlock the doors, tailgate and the fuel filler flap of your vehicle with a touch of a button. They can also switch on the ignition, trigger the alarm, and even operate your sunroof when it's installed. You'll never again have to look for your keys or lose access to your vehicle.

If you have a new Volvo model from our dealership, you might not be aware of its key fob's hidden features. One of them is a manual lock/unlock button that can be pressed in the event your key fob battery dies.

Keep your key fob in place with the Volvo logo facing upwards to unlock or lock the manual lock. Find the black button that is near the edge of the body of your key fob and gently press it to unlock a cover that hides a manual key blade. The cover can be turned counterclockwise using a flathead or coin.

Starting the Engine

Modern Volvo key fobs offer an experience of convenience and function that is unparalleled by manual keys. A key fob, like any other battery-operated device, may lose charge over time. If you've noticed that your key fob is less responsive when you press the lock or unlock buttons, it's an indication that it's in need of a new battery.

You can enable this feature with the key fob if your car has a dealer-installed Engine Remote Start. The vehicle will be able to cool or heat to the exact temperature it was set to when it was parked, and last for up to 15 mins.

Take off the back cover of the key fob with your fingernail. Under the cover on a diagonal, close to the body's edge, you'll find an unidentified button. Take it off by sliding it downwards, then to the right. The cover will then come loose and slide off to reveal the manual key blade inside! If you're unable to locate the button, look around the newly revealed manual key access for a hidden lever or slot.

Closing the Windows

Volvo key fobs come with a hidden feature that allows you to instantly roll down all the windows. This is useful when you're trying to squeeze into parking spaces that are tight or simply need fresh air while driving.

To do this simply press and hold the unlock button on your Volvo remote for four seconds. This will lower the windows and the sunroof if you have one. When you're finished with the vehicle, you can shut all windows by pressing the lock key again for four seconds.

You can also use your key fob to activate your car's panic alarm. This will sound an intense, attention-grabbing roar which can deter thieves and allow you to return home in peace after a night out. This feature comes in handy when you live in a neighborhood that is prone to crime or you want to safeguard your family while they're away.

The opening of the Tailgate

Volvo has packed its key fobs with variety of useful features. These are great when you're slammed with shopping, or helping your children pack their sports gear after a session.

For example, if you have the available Hands-Free Power Liftgate with logo projection and adjustable height (if equipped) You can open it using the key fob. It is possible to open the liftgate by pressing the button, and then close it by pressing the same button.

Use the key fob to ensure you are ready to start your vehicle. (Don't be concerned if your battery goes out or if your vehicle isn't starting because it also has an electronic key slot). This is one of the many tricks that can be useful for your brand new Volvo.

Switching off the Alarm

Modern key fobs are much more useful than a traditional car key. They aren't always working perfectly, and the batteries can fail. If you're in a hurry and don't want to visit a store to have your key fob reprogrammed you can try to make it work at home.

Find a clean surface and lay out your key fob, battery and extra keys. Place the key fob with the Volvo logo facing upwards Then, locate a small black button on the left side of the fob. Slide it downwards and to the right. The cover should loosen and fall off and reveal the mechanical key blade beneath it.

You can unlock all doors and the reargate by pressing the unlock button on the key fob twice. The lock button will also close the sunroof and windows (if fitted) by pressing it for two seconds. Reconnect the battery, and the alarm should cease. If it doesn't work, the owner's manual should provide a way to reset the alarm.
