WoW Upgrades - The item level upgrade Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to specific stats. Each upgrade increases the level of an item by +3. Each upgrade also boosts a random substat.

Upgraded gear is generally more valuable, unless it has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as important for the latter due to the need to roll a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader lets players upgrade their gear by giving the currency to an NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item that is used for the upgrade will remain in use for a long time and can't be used again. Upgrades can be used to create Enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To keep your gear up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader each several weeks.

Upgrades can cost more based on the level of the item, however, they are always cheaper than purchasing new gear. Upgrades like upgrading a Benthic chest to ilvl385 will cost you 20 recycle points. A similar item will cost you 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to upgrade tools, armor, weapon and accessory upgrades. They can be bought by players from NPCs who sell upgrades for items in exchange for different currencies, and can also be found in random treasure lists. Once purchased, an upgrade can be applied to any tool, weapon, or armor. The button will display a preview of an item's next upgrade level if there are enough materials.

The cost of upgrading varies based on the item slot, and the current item level. For instance weapons are more expensive than bracers, or gloves. Each step costs 15 Flightstones and a variety of crests, with certain upgrades offering discounts to reduce the cost of the Flightstones or the crests used. Once an item upgrader kit is upgraded to a certain degree, it can be degraded and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currency types.

Many locations offer item upgraders in addition to the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer both an upgrade discount and a chance to acquire a new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases depending on the amount of items being upgraded. It can also be boosted by requiring players to complete specific achievements or complete quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no upgrader for items available in the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who can facilitate upgrades are only available via a variety of ways. This is both a benefit as well as an issue.

In Season 3, the upgrade system has been modified a bit, and numerous new features added. Crests can be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC, such as Cuzolth in Dornogal or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade paths and steps.

Using these new currencies isn't that difficult however, the system introduces some modifications to the upgrade process. When a piece of equipment attains the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it no longer requires Flightstones. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible ilvl on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another significant change is that crests have one use therefore it's essential to use them properly.
